One of the highlights of her time at Penn State has been the opportunity to engage in hands-on research. Halima is especially focused on projects related to digital inclusion and AI privacy policy. She is currently conducting a systematic review on smartphone ownership in developing regions, exploring how access to technology can empower communities.

Charis completed an internship in Washington, D.C., with the National Bureau of Asian Research. Throughout this experience, she worked with a research team to understand the impact of Congress’ work on the Indo-Pacific region. “We did a lot of research on AI and intellectual property theft. I had the opportunity to write briefs, sit in on meetings and even got to interview someone from the Center for Strategic and International Studies.”

Stella is developing BeyondClass, a centralized hub that aims to provide college students easy and fair access to information about opportunities such as scholarships, networking, and career-boosting competitions. Her experience as an international student from Seoul, South Korea has informed her work. “BeyondClass is a centralized hub website where students can put in things like their majors, minors and interests, and our AI matching technology will use the database to provide them opportunities like clubs and scholarships that could benefit them.”
