Give us a brief summary of your experience?

During my internship, I was able to learn about any and all tasks of the Sheriff's Office within law enforcement. I was responsible for the collection and preservation of evidence on scene and in the lab, I worked with firearms, narcotics, fingerprints, and K-9 interdiction. I was also able to work within the jail, property rooms, forensic interviews, and patrol.

"I... feel that I am a part of a community with my coworkers that I am always able to contact and reach out to for advice within the field and help in my career plans and goals."

How did this experience impact you academically?

I got to see and experience processes I had only ever read about in class. I was able to learn from those in the field with a lot of experience, and eventually able to perform these processes myself. This internship was incredibly hands-on and has provided me with an insider perspective on criminal science and law enforcement procedures.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This experience has set me up with a base of knowledge of law enforcement and crime scene processes that I know I will constantly be able to refer to and draw from throughout my future in this field. I now also feel that I am a part of a community with my coworkers that I am always able to contact and reach out to for advice within the field and help in my career plans and goals.
