Experience Time: Spring 2021
Give us a brief summary of your experience?
For the Spring semester I am working alongside Barb Edwards, Jeremy Engels, and the rest of the Paterno Fellows Program staff as a social media coordinator. My responsibilities include designing and publishing social media promoting the program's events and opportunities on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. As the PFP social media intern, I have the opportunity to see how professional social media accounts are run and how to create impactful and engaging social media campaigns.
I am able to develop real life experience that will help me enhance my skills and forward my career.
How did this experience impact you academically?
As a Communication Arts and Sciences major, I am able to put skills I've developed in the classroom to use with this internship. It's one thing to learn what is most effective and engaging in online communication, but it's a wonderful opportunity to put that knowledge to work and support the Paterno Fellows Program in the meantime.
How will this experience impact your career goals?
After graduation, I hope to enter the nonprofit workforce in the capacity of a development associate whose responsibilities include designing and managing social media content to promote the organization's mission. As the PFP social media intern this semester, I am able to develop real life experience that will help me enhance my skills and forward my career.
How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?
I've been fortunate to have been awarded compensation from the Liberal Arts Enrichment Funds so that I am able to dedicate my time and skills to this internship.
How has the Paterno Fellows Program had an impact on this experience?
As a Paterno Fellow myself, it has been very rewarding to work behind the scenes as the PFP social media intern and to understand the important behind-the-scenes logistics of running the program. During my time working with the Paterno Fellows Program, I hope I will help in bringing this community of Fellows together, highlighting the program's incredible opportunities for current and future Fellows, and celebrating my Paterno Fellow peers.
