Give us a brief summary of your experience?

Over summer 2020, I have interned for Riverside Community Care acting as a care coordinator. Through a contract with MassHealth, I work with qualified individuals to make progress towards goals that are important to them. In doing so, I collaborate with their providers to establish a care plan that works for them and their physical/mental health needs.

I have seen the impact of my work firsthand

How did this experience impact you academically?

This experience has shown me the meaning of hard work. I have worked with a designated caseload throughout my internship where I have seen the impact of my work firsthand. This has motivated me to continue my education after my undergraduate studies, as this would allow for more certifications and opportunities to put myself in this position professionally.

How will this experience impact your career goals?

This will impact my career goals because I understand what it is like to help an individual from my work. I want to work for the government to make organizational changes that can impact many individuals at once. This differs from my current role, as I am now only able to make a difference on an individual level.

How has the College of the Liberal Arts helped you to find and/or succeed in this experience (e.g., adviser, faculty, staff, enrichment funds, etc.)?

The College of the Liberal Arts has liberated me to make the most of this experience. I have been able to volunteer extra hours at my internship because I can afford my living expenses without working another job. This has also allowed me to allocate time to my schoolwork, as I was able to better plan my weeks surrounding my internship and school.
