Learn about Greek culture and history and gain an understanding of human resources and labor relations in the context of Greece.
If you want to experience international human resource management (HRM) in person, this is the course for you!
You will see firsthand how HRM practices differ from the United States while visiting Greek companies in and around Athens, Greece, and exploring the islands. This is an embedded course that will consist of a 3-credit short course during the spring semester and a 0.25-credit travel portion during Maymester. It is also a great alternative to a full semester education abroad experience.
This course is taught in English, has no prerequisites, and is open to all majors and semester classifications.
Program Dates: May 14-24, 2026
Pre-requisites/Eligibility: This program is open to students who are taking LHR 499 in the spring 2026 semester. You must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above to participate.

This program is open to students taking LHR 499 in the spring 2026 semester.
Students who commit to the program will be manually enrolled in a 0.25-credit embedded travel course (LHR 499) for Maymester 2026.
If you are not taking a full-time credit load in the summer semester, the 0.25-credit Maymester course will be an additional cost of tuition at a flat rate of $200.
Students should review their academic term plans to determine any financial implications, especially if you plan to take over the maximum 19 credits in a semester. Students can anticipate actual charges using the University’s updated Tuition Calculator.
Note: If the embedded course fills to capacity and it is not possible to accept all students into the program, first preference will be given to students who are LHR majors. Additional spots will be filled based on the quality of your response to the essay question in the commitment form.
Embedded Program Fee: TBD
Airfare: Students will purchase their own roundtrip airfare with guidance from the faculty leaders.
In-Country Costs: Please consult with your faculty leaders about the amount of money to bring to cover the costs of meals and any additional spending money.
Note: The Embedded Program Fee will be billed to participants’ PSU bursar accounts in late April, and the payment is due May 22, 2026 (note this is during the trip dates). Participants will be charged a flat fee of $200 at the same time for the 0.25-credit summer embedded course.
The Embedded Program Fee for this program includes: accommodations (double or triple occupancy with breakfast included); fees related to program activities in Greece; some meals; roundtrip ferry (Athens – Spetses); emergency and administrative support.
The Embedded Program Fee for this program does NOT include: airfare; most meals; transportation to/from airport in U.S. or Greece; spending money; course/credit tuition or fees; passport and visa fees
To officially commit to the program, thoroughly read and submit the Official Financial Commitment Form by Sunday, February 1, 2026.
This form will be posted on this webpage sometime in October or early November. Students must fill out this form in order to be registered for the 0.25-credit embedded travel course. Interested students with questions may email Mark D. Gough at mdg228@psu.edu.
There are several official avenues for embedded program funding within the University. The primary ways are through Liberal Arts Enrichment Funding and Penn State Global, but students can also explore funding opportunities through their academic department or Undergraduate Research and Fellowships Mentoring.
