James R. Bowers (’67 Industrial Psychology) has nearly 50 years of experience in the human resources field—including more than 36 years with Hay Group, from which he retired as vice president/shareholder in December 2015. During his tenure, Jim established himself as one of the foremost authorities on executive compensation and performance-based reward programs. He has counseled compensation committees, boards, and executives at private and public companies throughout the world representing an array of industries; he has also authored numerous publications and delivered many presentations in his areas of expertise. Although “retired,” he continues to lend his expertise to those who seek it through his own firm, Jim Bowers Consulting LLC.
Jim received a master’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University; he also graduated from the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate and Justice Schools and served as line officer in the U.S. Navy. Jim also has been actively involved with many professional, academic, and civic associations—including Penn State, where he is a member of the School of Labor and Employment Relations’ Alumni Program Group and is a student mentor.
