The experiences you have outside the classroom help share your Penn State journey and set you apart as you prepare for post-graduation plans. In the College of the Liberal Arts, students are encouraged to take advantage of the broad range of opportunities available specifically for them. Internships, combined with undergraduate research, a study abroad experience, and a mentor to coach you and help you build your network will help you become a well-rounded and extremely prepared Liberal Arts graduate.

Internships are ways to test-drive a possible career, to get your foot in the door and start building a professional network. They give you a chance to build your skill set and make career decisions based on first-hand experience for your preferences regarding careers. The Liberal Arts Career Enrichment Network can help you find and prepare for internships.

As a liberal arts student, we know you’re interested in the world around you. We also know that global experience will be important for you as you transition from student to professional and enter a global marketplace. Global experiences should be viewed as opportunities to develop your skills and enhance your résumé for future opportunities.

There are a lot of great opportunities for Liberal Arts students to become involved in research as research assistants. The experience can help you to develop skills that will be attractive to future employers, and it also can help you with making a decision about whether or not you would like to pursue a graduate degree. It’s also a great way to get to know your professors.
