The spring 2017 undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., in the Bryce Jordan Center.

PRIOR TO GRADUATION

Intent to Graduate

It is the student's responsibility to indicate his or her intent to graduate at the beginning of the semester in which the student plans to graduate. If the notification is late, the student's name will not appear in the printed commencement program. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all degree requirements have been met before he or she can be certified for graduation.

Diplomas

The commencement ceremony is held at the end of each semester, immediately following the final exam period. Because of this, diplomas are not distributed at the ceremony. Students who are within a maximum of two courses or eight credits and are scheduled to complete these courses/credits in the following semester may request to participate in the current semester's graduation ceremony by filing a request form with their advisor.

For more information about diplomas, please visit http://commencement.psu.edu/diplomas.html.

Senior Survey

Graduates are required to complete the Senior Survey in order to receive the packet and should check their email for instructions that were sent out at the end of March. (See sample packet here.) This information is important; it gives you detailed information about commencement day and contains your nomenclature (name) card.

DAY OF REMINDERS

The ceremony will last approximately two hours and will include remarks by a University administrator, an address by our commencement speaker, the conferring of degrees, and individual recognition of each graduate while crossing the stage.

Admission

Admission is free. There is open, free seating for guests of the graduates. Tickets are not required. However, we expect the facility to be filled to capacity, so the best seats will be available when the door opens one hour before the ceremony begins.

Purse/Bag Policy: bjc.psu.edu/policies

Arrival Time

Graduates are asked to be at the Bryce Jordan Center by 5:30 p.m., one hour before the ceremony begins.

Nomenclature Cards

Students, please bring your nomenclature card with you to commencement. Students who don't have a nomenclature card upon arrival must stop at the designated table on the commencement floor to get a replacement card. This card is used for announcing your name as you cross the stage.

For information about attire and where to buy your cap and gown, visit http://commencement.psu.edu/regalia.html

Disability Accommodations

Penn State encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. It is very important that graduates notify the Office of University Relations at their earliest convenience if they anticipate needing any type of special accommodations. You may reach them by calling 814-865-2501.

Parking for guests with disabilities is available as shown on the BJC Commencement Google Map. A driver may drop a passenger off at the Founders Lounge entrance in Lot Orange L East (see map) and then park the vehicle. Reserved seat tickets will not be needed, but guests with disabilities should arrive at least an hour early to avoid the last-minute rush. Inside the Founders Lounge entrance, ushers will be available to assist in taking individuals via elevator to the appropriate seating area. The ADA requires that we provide one companion seat immediately adjacent to an accessible seat for a person with a disability. Other family members may sit in the general seating area.

Parking

Parking is free.

To manage the significant congestion expected around the Bryce Jordan Center, Medlar Field, Beaver Stadium, and University Drive during spring commencement weekend, traffic and parking will be managed by filling alternating lots for each commencement ceremony. Drivers will be directed to the appropriate lot by University Police and event parking staff based on the traffic and parking conditions at the time of their arrival. Please use caution while traveling through this area of campus and allow extra time to reach your destination.

General parking for Penn State spring commencement ceremonies being held at the Bryce Jordan Center will be available at the following parking areas:

Lot 44 – located east of the Bryce Jordan Center, and accessible from Porter Road (via Park Avenue or College Avenue) and Dauer Drive (via University Drive)

Stadium West – located west of Beaver Stadium, and accessible only from Park Avenue

Porter North – located north of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and accessible from Porter Road (via Park Avenue or College Avenue)

ADA parking will be available at the following Lot 44 and Stadium West areas:

-        Northwest corner of Lot 44 near Bryce Jordan Center Gate B, across from the Penn State All-Sports Museum (accessible from intersection of Porter Road and Curtin Road)

-        Section of Lot Orange L located between the Bryce Jordan Center and Lot 44 (accessible from Dauer Drive via University Drive)

-        First three rows of parking in the southeast corner of Stadium West near Beaver Stadium, and the first four rows in the southwest corner of Stadium West near University Drive/Curtin Road intersection (all accessible only from Park Avenue)

To ensure the safety of all guests and to assist with traffic flow between each ceremony, drivers are discouraged from dropping off or picking up guests outside of the designated ADA parking areas. These areas are ADA accessible and located just a short distance from entrances to the Bryce Jordan Center. Curtin Road will also be closed to vehicle traffic between University Drive and the entrance to Lot 44 throughout most of the commencement ceremonies to allow safe pedestrian access between Stadium and the Bryce Jordan Center.

Commencement parking for all ceremonies will be available at no charge, courtesy of Penn State Transportation Services.

Click on the BJC Commencement Google Map to view a map of the commencement ceremony site, as well as the general and ADA parking areas.
