On December 10, 2013, the Project Decision Review Board (a committee consisting of the president, provost, vice president for business and finance, associate vice president for the physical plant, university architect, and others), approved the Burrowes project's final budget. The bids for the construction work have been received and evaluated with some budget changes. The Board of Trustees has the final say and will take up the project at its January 16-17 meeting.
The construction costs came in slightly over budget. After a several year period of stability in construction costs, following a decline in 2008 because of the recession, construction costs appear to be climbing up a bit. Adjustments will be made in other parts of the budget so that all the features and materials of the planned building will be preserved.
If the Board approves, the construction site will probably be set up fairly quickly between Burrowes and Pond, and construction will begin in February.
